What does the light look like today? Spring's soft green, summer's long warm light, autumn's amber, winter's blue silence.
New green, soft rain, returning birds
Long light, warm wind, deep color
Amber leaves and the slow turning year
Quiet light, bare branches, blue snow
Most landscape photography sites organize by subject (mountain, beach, sunset) or by location (Iceland, Patagonia, the Pacific Northwest). We do that too, in the biomes index. But organizing by season is the most honest cut, because season determines almost everything else: the angle of the sun, the color temperature, the humidity in the atmosphere, the presence of leaves, the weight of snow, the behavior of water.
A photographer can choose where to point the camera. They cannot choose what season they are in. The season is the invisible hand on every landscape photograph, and the four collections here let you browse with that hand made visible.
