- Description
- Hohllay (“hollow rock”) in Berdorf , Luxembourg The Hohllay, also known as Huel Lee, is an impressive rock formation in Luxembourg’s “Gutland” region, more precisely in the “Little Switzerland” area near Berdorf. The name means “hollow rock” and describes a man-made hollowed-out stone that stands out due to its striking narrow passages and caves . The history of the Hohllay dates back to Roman times. Even then, stones were quarried here for the construction of buildings, which underlines the importance of the site as a quarry . Its use continued in the Middle Ages, demonstrating the long tradition of stoneworking at this location.
